Snowden Photography Competition
The 2010 Snowden photography competition was a great success with hundreds of high quality photos being submitted. Congratulations to all entrants who made the job of judging this year's competition so difficult.
Richard Woldendorp, world renowned Australian landscape photographer who led the judging panel again this year commented, "I have judged the photographs for the Snowden competition over the past 6 years. I have seen both the quantity and quality of the photographs submitted increase enormously. I think we have been successful in choosing the best this year, and I look forward to seeing them displayed in the exhibition."
Simon Bennison, CEO of AMEC, who also made time to participate on the judging panel this year said, "The variety and quality of the images was very impressive, it was certainly a daunting task to decide on just one winning category photograph when all are outstanding."
In the end the judging panel which also included Greg Boase from Resolution and a team of Snowden specialists decided that the quality of the category winners was so high that an overall winner could not be chosen. Instead the AUD$10,000 prize money will be split between the category winners, with the newly introduced Black and White category now receiving AUD$5,500 and the other categories all winning AUD$4,500.

Black and White: Mr Prasanta Biswas for his photograph "Stone Crusher Mine in India" taken at the Pakur Stone Crusher Mine in India
Landscape/ General: Mr Greg Tossel for his photograph "Kalgoorlie's Underbelly" taken at the Kalgoorlie Super Pit in Australia
Equipment and Machinery: Mr Joshua Ratadhi for his photograph "This is Mining" taken at PT KPC, Indonesia
People and Culture: Mr Prasanta Biswas for his photograph "Local coal collector" taken at the Jharia Coalfield in India
Over 60 photos were also chosen to be part of the exhibition that will travel around the world from October.
The exhibition will be displayed in;
Perth: October 7 - 19 at Central Park
Brisbane: October 25 - November 5 at Riverside Centre
Johannesburg: January 27 - February 4th at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange
Cape Town: February 7-10 as part of the Indaba Conference
The competition for people's choice will open on August 1st with the winner receiving an AUD$1,000 prize. Voting will again be held at this website so please check back then to cast your vote for your favourite photograph in the 2010 photo exhibition.
